Greetland All Rounders U’11s 28 – Meltham All Black’s U’11s 10

Greetland continued their winning run with a comprehensive victory against a team they have not played for three years. On those occasions Meltham were the winners.

In what turned out to be a very physical game, Greetland came out victorious with a very good team performance.

Greetland won the toss and elected to play up the slope in the first half. Strong defence from Joe Greenwood, Seb Hardy and Ben Iveson managed to keep Meltham out on several occasions; it was, however, Greetland that took the first points, from what was probably one of the best tries of the season so far. From deep within his own half, Ted Fraine received the ball from Brad Taylor and set off on a run that beat several tacklers only to be denied by a last ditch tackle. This set field position for Iveson to offload the ball for Isaac Riley to score, no conversion.

Meltham continued to pressure the Greetland line and were eventually rewarded with an unconverted try.

Not to be outdone, Greetland hit back with a very clever try, the ball was driven up the field by Jack Burrows, Will Archer and Thomas Hinchliff, this set the field position for Iveson to grubber a kick into the in goal area where Connor Walker beat the rest of the players to ground the ball, Greenwood converted.

Then right on the stroke of half time, Meltham scored their second and last try of the game.

Half time score, Greetland 10 – Meltham 10

The second half saw Greetland take full command of the game, Meltham were unable to break the Greetland defensive line, which was marshalled extremely well by Seb Suthers and Sam Blagbrough. Greetlands’ next try started off in their own half, Harry Fairbank receiving the ball on the top wing to race fully sixty yards before being caught, slick handling between Iveson, Taylor and Walker allowed Myles Holroyd to race in at the corner, Blagbrough converted.

After forcing Meltham to knock on, Blagbrough was fed the ball to bulldoze his way over the line and race behind the posts, Iveson converted.

The final try came courtesy of another darting run from Ted Fraine, Tom Rhodes set field position where the ball was passed through several pairs of hands to reach Fraine, who then side-stepped his way over the line, Holroyd added the conversion.

This Sunday Greetland will be put to the test with a home game against West Bowling.

Final Score: - Greetland 28 – Meltham 10

Keighley Cougar Cubs Under 11's 0 – Greetland All Rounders Under 11's 12

Greetland made the trip to Keighley hoping to secure a victory in the first ever league meeting between the two sides.

In what turned out to be a very physical game, Greetland came out victorious with a very good team performance.

On a very tight pitch Keighley struggled to cope with the direct running of Sam Blagbrough, Jack Burrows and Isaac Riley. It was from one such drive that opened the opportunity for Connor Walker to power his way over the try line taking four defenders with him, unfortunately Will Archer was unable to add the extras.

The ferocity of the Greetland tacklers led by Thomas Hinchliff and Joe Greenwood made Keighley turn the ball over on more than one occasion, however, the All Rounders were unable to capitalise due to some good defending by the Cougars.

Then came Greetland’s second try of the game. From deep in their own half new signing Harry Fairbank, Seb Suthers and Seb Hardy drove the ball up the field, Ted Fraine set off on a run for the corner only to be denied a try by a last ditch tackle. This allowed Bard Taylor to slip the ball to Walker who offloaded into the arms of a rampaging Ben Iveson to score in front of the posts, no conversion.

Half time score, Keighley 0 – Greetland 8

The second half was very much a repeat of the first, Greetland stepped up their efforts in defence, which was rewarded in the fact that Keighley only managed to get out of their own half on two occasions.

With 5 minutes left Greetland finally managed to break the Keighley defence, good passing down the line allowed Greenwood to slip the ball out to Walker on the touch line who slipped in for a try. No conversion added.

Final Score: - Keighley 0 –Greetland 12.

Greetland Allrounders Under 11's 38 – Brighouse Under 11's 0

Greetland hosted Brighouse on a very warm October morning, hoping to get their first ever victory over the visitors.

In what turned out to be a very comprehensive victory for the All Rounders, they showed just how much they have improved since last season. With this been their first ever victory over Brighouse.

Sam Blagbrough opened the scoring for Greetland with one of his typical powerhouse drives to the try line. Issac Riley coverting. On the restart, strong defensive work from Seb Suthers and Thomas Hichliff forced the Brighouse player to knock on and from the resulting play the ball Greetland sent the ball up the field with good handling from Myles Holroyd and Dan Hirst to set field position for Ben Iveson to receive the ball and crash over for the second try, unfortunately he could not convert his own try.

Brighouse worked their way up the field but Greetlands defence led by Joe Greenwood and Ted Fraine proved unbreakable. Time for man of the match Brad Taylor to score the first of his four tries, good ground work was laid down by Will Archer and Seb Hardy and from centre field position Connor Walker took on the defence and offloaded the ball for Taylor to outpace the defence for the try, no conversion.

Once again, Brighouse errors cost them, after been caught offside Greetland sent the ball out to find Taylor who jinked his way over for the last try of the first half. Once again the conversion was missed.

The second half continued much the same as the first finished, Powerful drives from Sam Blagbrough and Ted Fraine set position for Walker to squirm his way over for the 5th Try of the game, no conversion.

Another Brighouse error gave Seb Hardy possession for him to score a well deserved try which Walker converted.
